Independent Evaluations

School assessments are typically performed by a school psychologist to determine whether a child qualifies for special education services. Although the same can be done by a neuropsychologist, the school evaluation is limited to tests, which focus on achievement and skills needed for academic success. In contrast, a neuropsychological evaluation measures cognitive strengths and weaknesses in more detail. A neuropsychologist’s specialized training allows the professional to select, administer, and interpret the particular battery of tests that will yield the most comprehensive understanding of the individual’s strengths and weaknesses of the child or adolescent, to include areas like: general intellect, achievement skills, executive skills, attention, learning and memory, language, visual-spatial skills, motor coordination, behavioral and emotional functioning, and social skills.

At our center, we offer consultations/observations and independent evaluations for schools, as well as for concerned parents, in cases wherein a child or adolescent is exhibiting complex learning, social, and/or behavioral difficulties. The goal of an independent evaluation is to offer an unbiased interpretation of a child or adolescents neurocognitive strengths and weaknesses through the administration of neurocognitive measures, qualitative observations, as well as integrating developmental, medical, social, and educational history.
